Luxury Swiss watchmaker, RAYMOND WEIL, is proud to unveil a new collaboration in its Music Icons series, the freelancer AC/DC Limited Edition, paying tribute to legendary Rock and Roll Hall of famers AC/DC. This exclusive watch incorporates the in-house developed Calibre RW1212 movement, allowing onlookers to view the rocking “Alternating Current/Direct Current” balance within the timepiece. 

RAYMOND WEIL, unveils its latest edition to its ever-expanding collection of music influenced timepieces, featuring subtle design cues inspired by the legendary Rock band, AC/DC that have been translated into a horology masterpiece using decades of watchmaking know-how. 

Measuring 42 mm in diameter, the freelancer AC/DC Limited Edition exudes a notable air of masculinity. Lined with luminescent treatment, slender hour and minute hands articulate the time with lucid dialogue. To reinforce the rock and roll attitude of the timepiece, the hours are marked with studded indexes. The black dial features a textured pattern recalling the AC/DC high voltage bolt graphics. Roger Dubuis and Lamborghini Squadra Corse roar in Harrods London

Harrods is a globally renowned shopping destination with a long-standing history of collaborating with legendary luxury brands – therefore resulting in a natural location for Roger Dubuis to be showcased. Harrods is also home to Roger Dubuis’ only UK boutique, where visitors can experience the craftsmanship and design of Roger Dubuis year round.

Guests visiting the innovative pop-up will experience a 360 degree design concept inspired by the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Skeleton and the motorsport universe; visitors will have the chance to discover the raging Excalibur Aventador S models, developed in collaboration with Lamborghini Squadra Corse. Offering yet another stunning example of highly complicated watchmaking, the Excalibur Aventador S is crafted from the same C-SMC carbon as that used on Lamborghini’s cars, and driven by a powerful ‘engine’ resembling Lamborghini’s Aventador. The display will include the recently launched Excalibur Aventador S Blue and Excalibur Aventador S Pink Gold, the newest additions to the stunning line up.

Oris opens boutique in Zurich

Independent Swiss watch company Oris is proud to announce the opening of the stylish new Oris Boutique, Zurich, an experiential space that showcases the very best of Oris’s independent culture.

The innovative, lively space on Zurich’s fashionable Rennweg is set over two floors, covering 110m2. The ground floor will be devoted to retail and will offer visitors an immersive Oris experience, transporting them to the beautiful Waldenburg Valley and the Swiss town of Hölstein, where Oris has been making watches since 1904. The first floor will be an area especially reserved for events hosted by Oris for VIP customers and press.

The new boutique also includes the Oris Bar and Oris Lounge concepts, where customers will be invited to relax, enjoy a freshly roasted cup of coffee, or an Oris Beer or Oris Gin, and to look at the Oris collection at their leisure in calm, stylish surroundings away from the busy street outside.

Oris is also pushing forward the Oris Open Displays concept. Oris Paradropper LT Staffel 7 Limited Edition

Oris introduces an inventive watch for pilots of the Swiss Air Force’s Lufttransport Staffel 7

Oris has created numerous specialist watches in its long history, but few have been designed with such a specific purpose as the independent company’s latest pilot’s watch. The Oris Paradropper LT Staffel 7 Limited Edition has been created for pilots of the Swiss Air Force’s Lufttransport Staffel 7, which transports paratroopers to a drop zone. The watch marks only the second time the Swiss Air Force has worked with a Swiss watch company.

The stories of Oris and aviation are closely linked. Oris was founded in 1904 at the dawn of aviation and made its first pilot’s pocket watch in the early 1910s. That was followed by the company’s first pilot’s wristwatch in 1917, a watch that featured an ingenious mechanism that meant the watch could only be adjusted when a button was pressed at 2 o’clock. The same spirit of invention inspired the Oris Big Crown which debuted in 1938. Its oversized crown meant gloved airmen could adjust their watches quickly and easily. Today, Oris’s pilot’s watch collection is full of innovative watches that are trusted by pilots all over the world.

The Paradropper LT Staffel 7 Limited Edition is the latest chapter in Oris’s pilot’s watch story. It is designed for pilots of the Swiss Air Force’s Lufttransport Staffel 7 whose task is to transport paratroopers to a designated drop zone in the Pilatus PC-6 aircraft. The timings of these missions are critical. Pilots have 20 minutes from take-off to the moment when the paratroopers jump, and have to synchronise with other planes on the same missions. So they make detailed plans in which every second is critical.

Timing jumps isn’t the only challenge the Lufttransport Staffel 7’s pilots face. In remote territories where there are no recognised landing areas the pilots need to find makeshift airfields of at least 250 metres in length to land and take off safely.

The Oris Paradropper LT Staffel 7 Limited Edition meets these two challenges.

Timing for paradropping missions

At take-off the pilot adjusts the bi-directional rotating black ceramic bezel so that the ‘Y’ position on its timer scale is aligned with the minute hand. The pilot now has 20 minutes to reach the drop area

When the minute hand aligns with the yellow marker at 17 minutes the pilot informs the paratroopers to prepare to jump

A red marker at 19 minutes indicates to the pilot that he can give clearance to open the aircraft door 

At 20 minutes a parachute icon indicates that it is time for the paratroopers to jump 

Measuring landing areas

The watch has a chronograph function with a green central seconds hand. As a pilot approaches a potential landing area, he starts the chronograph 

The pilot flies over the airfield at exactly 100 knots, once in both directions 

If the time it takes to cover the airfield at that speed is measured at 10 seconds or more, the pilot knows the airfield is at least 250 metres long and that it is therefore safe to land 

The 10-second mark is indicated by a green marker and the markings 100 KIAS (Knots – Indicated Air Speed)

The Paradropper LT Staffel 7 Limited Edition has a number of other useful features. Its lightweight titanium case has a stealthy, hard-wearing matt black DLC (diamond-like carbon) finish that offsets cockpit glare; its high-contrast black dial has large Arabic numerals printed in Super-LumiNova® and hands also filled with Super-LumiNova® for maximum legibility; and its rugged olive textile strap is equipped with Oris’s patented clasp, inspired by passenger airline safety buckles.

Kiera Chaplin- The New Face Of SAINT HONORE

Since their collaboration on 2017 Rallye des Gazelles, ties were reinforced between SAINT HONORE and Kiera Chaplin, now the brand’s new ambassador - discover who she is.

Kiera Chaplin, a multi-talented woman

Grand-daughter of Charlie Chaplin and great-grand-daughter of Nobel Prize winner Eugene O’Neill, Kiera Chaplin remembers a time, while growing up, when she did not grasp the measure of her heritage’s fame. Yet she tried to find her place pretty soon, as a teenager; she got into modelling at 16 and her career kicked off when she moved to New York. She would appear in leading fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle or Vanity Fair, and she featured in several brands’ campaigns, as well as Pirelli’s calendar. FHM voted her one of the top 20 most eligible women in the world.

Later on, she looked into acting and appeared in several movies, including Oliver Parker’s adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s comedy The Importance Of Being Earnest and Bollywood movie Yatna. She finally got into film production, her first try being a documentary on Charlie Chaplin while he lived in Switzerland.

She still harbors artistic ambitions – just like everybody else in the family, it seems. A few years ago, the brand Hogan Rebel invited her to create a shoe collection, and she is today designing her own handbag line. She is known for her work as film-producer with young film-makers, and is currently producing a television series on Hollywood.

A boundless energy

SAINT HONORE met Kiera Chaplin at an event where you would not expect her: the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc, an off-road rally raid in the middle of the Moroccan desert. Quite a change of scenery! Nonetheless, though Kiera remains pretty reserved, she has a winning personality. The great deal of activities she is involved in testifies to her determination, and this business woman is not scared of taking risks: in addition to her creative aspirations, she is also currently working on a mobile application project.

In 2017, she did take part in the rally raid with 2005 Miss France Cindy Fabre, and SAINT HONORE was their sponsor. A successful first try since their team finished 6th in their category. Did the magic between Kiera and the brand happen at that time? Who knows, but one thing is for sure: however unlikely, it was a great encounter.

She then repeated the rally experience in 2018 with her friend Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, with SAINT HONORE’s support.

Elegance personified

SAINT HONORE could not have dreamt of a better ambassador; with her elegance and charm, Kiera Chaplin perfectly represents the brand. Interesting detail: the Eiffel Tower –which inspired a flagship piece among SAINT HONORE creations- was inaugurated the same year her grandfather Charlie Chaplin was born.

She worked together with Frédéric Monceau to present the 2018 collection. On this occasion, we asked her a few questions.

How do you experience being SAINT HONORE’s ambassador?

I am very happy to be the ambassador of such a nice brand. SAINT HONORE has a wide collection and offers many choices, but most of all they are beautiful, quality watches.

What do you like in SAINT HONORE collections?

I think there are models for all ages and styles, yet without losing the SAINT HONORE look.

Do you have a favorite among the 2018 novelties?

The Enjoy line is gorgeous! It is easy to wear and it has a good vibe. And of course, the Tour Eiffel is unique!

Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon

The second season of Roger Dubuis's winning association with Pirelli was launched at the Monaco F1 Grand Prix, with the launch of the new Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon.

Minutes after the race finished with Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull Racing crossed the line and took the chequered flag, this super high-spec model hit the watchmaking track with a strap matching the colour of the winning car tyres. The adrenalin-pumping range of new design options included a complementary Pit Stop Collector Box of interchangeable straps – each echoing the high-rev partnership between the brand that dares to be different and the iconic tyre maker.

Roger Dubuis thundered onto the motorsports scene with some show-stopping timepieces in 2017, launched at equally ‘disruptive’ events. The launches of its Perfect Fit and Raging Mechanics partnerships with Pirelli and Lamborghini… These high-profile liaisons provide ideal opportunities to invite Roger Dubuis clients into the hallowed arenas of cutting-edge motorsports and to demonstrate in no uncertain terms what happens when visionary engineers meet with incredible watchmakers. In 2018, the term “flying” at Roger Dubuis refers not only to a spectacular horological complication, but also to its overall performance as it rolls out new additions to the iconic Excalibur family.

Exclusive colour coding

The latest embodiment of this relationship with racing royalty comes with the exclusively developed Roger Dubuis expression of Pirelli’s famous distinguishing colour codes in the strap which features rubber inlays from certified Pirelli winning tyres having competed in official races. Ramping up their alliance with a model featuring one of the ultimate watch complications, the gravity-defying tourbillon, Roger Dubuis and Pirelli go the extra mile on this lap with the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon. What’s more, this sophisticated feat of mechanical engineering comes with an ultra-select sting in the tail. The race finish provided hardcore motorsports fans and watch aficionados alike with plenty of cause for excitement as, minutes after the chequered flag was waved, the super-hot new Roger Dubuis timepiece roared off the launch grid in its exclusive new livery. Followers were stunned to see that not only does the strap colour of the new arrival match the tyres of the newly crowned winning driver’s car, and even more thrilled to learn than that the exclusive boutique version will be delivered with a PitStop Collector Box.

This motorsports-inspired set contains no less than seven different straps echoing the seven Pirelli tyre colours used for competitions during the previous season. Each conveys part of the Pirelli logo positioned on the side of every high-speed motor racing tyre and is engraved with the code used by Pirelli to track its winning tyres. Oris’s new Big Crown Pointer Date collection revives a heritage design for a generation of forward-thinking men and women

Oris is reintroducing the iconic Big Crown Pointer Date, a signature Oris design that symbolises the independent Swiss company’s long and illustrious history. While the new Oris Big Crown Pointer Date signposts Oris’s rich watchmaking legacy, it is also a contemporary wristwatch designed to appeal to stylish, urbane men and women.

The Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is more than a landmark in the company’s archive of inventive, high-performance watches. In the 1980s, it marked a watershed moment for the company when it was reintroduced to spearhead Oris’s mission to champion the eternal value of mechanical watchmaking in the face of the quartz revolution. With its smooth, round case and tapered lugs, coin-edged bezel, oversized crown, clear, functional dial, and central pointer hand indicating the date, it is one of Oris’s most recognised designs, and one of the most iconic pieces in all of watchmaking.

The new models pick up on this story for a new generation of stylish, forward-thinking mechanical watch buyers. Oris’s designers have reworked the case to be slimmer, smoother and more seamless so that it slips elegantly onto the wrist and under a cuff. Much of this contemporary profile is delivered by the watch’s bubble-curved sapphire crystal, a feature that both enhances the watch’s vintage aesthetic and gives it its up-to-date feel.

The new shape is available with either a 36mm or 40mm case. Both feature the iconic dial design, complete with rounded Arabic numerals, a rail track chapter ring indicating the minutes, ornate hands and the pointer date hand. The twist is in the dial colours available. Oris’s designers turned to colour keyboards in Le Corbusier’s Polychromie architecturale, using a light green for the 36mm version, and a grey-blue for the 40mm. Both give the watch a younger, more urban feel. Black dials are also available.

In keeping with Oris’s philosophy to only make mechanical watches, the Big Crown Pointer Date is powered by a Swiss Made automatic movement.

Louis Moinet 250th Anniversary

Louis Moinet, the inventor of the chronograph, was born in 1768. To celebrate this 250th anniversary, and to coincide with the summer solstice and its connotations of rebirth, Ateliers Louis Moinet are making no fewer than four announcements at once: about timepieces made by the firm, its heritage, and future developments. More details about the news summarised here will be released in the coming weeks.

Announcement 1: Ultravox – Louis Moinet’s first ever Hour-Strike

This is an outstanding development and a considerable investment for a fully-independent firm which still produces only two timepieces a day – its first Hour-Strike. This rare and highly technical complication here bears the name Ultravox, and is based on a completely new movement, developed by the illustrious watchmaker Eric Coudray. Featuring a completely new design that reveals the entire movement, the timepiece will be unveiled for the very first time on June 20, 2018.

Announcement 2: Louis Moinet is back in Bourges

On June 21, 2018, the City of Bourges, where Moinet was born, will have its very own street named after the famous watchmaker. Two things make this a particularly remarkable event. Firstly, the inauguration will be taking place precisely on the 250th anniversary of Louis Moinet’s birth. Secondly, the street in question is not merely in the town of his birth, but directly adjacent to where he lived in the 1820s, running alongside his own home. 250 years on, the house is still there, and has been formally identified by a college of historians. Impasse Louis Moinet, unveiled in the presence of Bourges City councillors, will thus be right where the inventor of the chronograph was born.

Announcement 3: The Louis Moinet digital museum

From the outset, Ateliers Louis Moinet have constantly undertaken to restore the renown of the stupendous inventor Louis Moinet – painter, sculptor, watchmaker, scientist, and author of the legendary Traité d’Horlogerie, a work of reference that remained an authority for close to a century.

The authenticity of this undertaking is underpinned by the reconstitution of Moinet’s heritage, of which his clocks and original copies of his Traité are some of the foremost examples. At their headquarters in Saint-Blaise, Neuchâtel, Ateliers Louis Moinet have gathered together a sizeable collection, including a large number of restored, functional timepieces. Now, for the first time in its history, this completely unique heritage – the only one of its kind in the world – is being made available online, free of charge and painstakingly documented. Future acquisitions will gradually be added to this “Digital museum”. Although it is not exhaustive, it is already the largest collection of authenticated Louis Moinet objects in the world.

Announcement 4: a partnership with HEAD

Ateliers Louis Moinet are keen to see Louis Moinet’s legacy live on, as it surely deserves to; to ensure this, they have entered into a partnership with HEAD, the Geneva University of Art and Design. The partnership involves a contest – with prize money of CHF 5,000 up for grabs – to get students thinking about what the watch of the future might look like. The exact rubric for the competition is as follows: “The traditional Swiss watch is under threat from the digital watch. Devise a watch embodying Swiss watchmaking values and offering a relevant answer to this challenge for today’s market.” The results will be determined by a panel made up of representatives from HEAD and Ateliers Louis Moinet, and will be announced in autumn 2018.

Ateliers Louis Moinet was founded in Saint-Blaise, Neuchâtel, in 2004.
